Supported by the RLSP South West Wales, a group of young people from Pembrokeshire have successfully completed a 14-week Level 1 & 2 Engineering programme, as part of the Pembrokeshire Regional Skills Pilot Project. Backed by UK and Welsh Government funding, the initiative is powering up local talent with the hands on skills and knowledge needed to step confidently into the rapidly expanding low carbon sector.

Whilst the majority of the course took place at Pembrokeshire college, the students also spent time at Providence Training in Neyland where they picked up real world experiences in an engineering environment. To reward their dedication and hard work, each student was presented with their own engineering toolkit, giving them a practical set of tools to continue developing their skills beyond the course and supporting their next steps into training or employment.

The students praised the course for its hands on approach and the real career advantages it offered.

Jordan “I enjoyed the course; it taught me lots of practical skills that will be helpful in my future career”

Thomas “The course was a great introduction into the working environment, it covered plenty and I learned how to use loads of tools. Just a really great course.”

Mathew “The course was a really interesting opportunity to learn about engineering if you’re not from that background and I learnt valuable skills like welding, fabrication and hand tooling. A really good place to start”

The Level 1&2 Engineering course forms part of a dynamic suite of programmes delivered through the Pembrokeshire Regional Skills Pilot Project. Alongside engineering, the initiative offers pathways into welding, green construction, and more, equipping young people across Pembrokeshire with the skills, confidence, and industry ready expertise needed to thrive in emerging sectors and help build a sustainable future workforce.
